School Board Refuses to Move… Does Not Believe the $688,000 LEA Has Already Agreed to is Enough!
At the bargaining table Eric Volta stated:

The School Board refuses to accept 2 Instructional Pay Cut Days.

The School Board refuses to accept a one-year contract locking LEA members into a multi year agreement.

The School Board refuses to recognize they have ALREADY taken 3 pay-cut days by denying 3 Staff Development Days.

The School Board wants to make PERMANENT cuts to lifetime earnings by taking 6 pay-cut days.

- Teaching Conditions,

- Leave Language,
- Establishing a Joint Committees on Evaluation,

- Hourly Compensation,
- Inclusion of MOU for substitute coverage during preparation time.
Outstanding Issues:
- Compensation for required work outside of the contract day,
- Duration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement,
- Pay cut days,
- Personal needs days.

District
- The District’s proposals revolved around:
- paycuts,
- modification of class size remedy,
- proposals for some permanent changes and for some suspensions of contract language,
- proposal for a two year agreement.
Association
- The Association’s proposals revolved around:
- one year contract,
- refining District rights,
- improving employee rights and teaching conditions,
- protecting the contract day,
- establishing specific guidelines for the Health and Safety Committee,
- improving the flexibility for the use of sick leave,
- expanding the list of members of the immediate family for leave purposes,
- ensuring that involuntary transfers are not used for arbitrary or capricious reasons,
- recognizing work load for La Paloma teachers and counselors,
- adjustment to health benefit cap,
- establishing a joint evaluation committee,
- adding a new section on technology.
The District will bring a package of counterproposals to the next meeting on Wednesday, May 19, 2010.
